Flea Markets
Flea-markets are great places to find antiques, old kimono, arts and crafts along with a number of different locally made goods. The following is arranged in ascending order from the first of every month.
Monthly on 8th
Toyokuni Shrine: A very small market but has local goods
Open 10:00-15:00
Monthly on 12th
Myoren-ji Temple:Various handicrafts, antiques, and other local goods
Open 9:00-17:00
2nd Sunday of Every Month
Kennin-ji Temple:This market is inside Bishamon-do and specializes in handicrafts and arts
Open 10:00-16:00
This market goes by the name of Toraichi 寅市. Easiest way to find the market is to enter Kenninji Temple complex from the north east entrance from Hanamikoji street. Then follow signs with the following Chinese characters [寅市] [両足院 鎮守]. There are only a few stalls.
Monthly on 15th
Chion-ji Temple:Considered Kyoto’s biggest handicraft market. It has an extensive range of handmade things and great bargains
Open 8:00-16:00
Usually Held Monthly on either 1st or 3rd Sunday
Kyoto City Hall: A huge public flea market with a range of goods
Open 10:00-17:00
Monthly on 21st
To-ji Temple:This massive market is very popular and offers a wide range of goods
Open 7:00-17:00
Monthly on 25th
Kitano Tenmangu Shrine:This huge market winds its way around its large temple complex
Open 7:00-16:30
Note: Go early, especially on weekends or national holidays
